SAMANA (ARROYO BARRIL / PUERTO DUARTE)
The port of Samana also called Arroyo Barril or PuertoDuarte is a finger pier with berth facility to the both side and it is located in the north coast (Samana bay) of the Dominican Republic. This port is mainly used as a passenger terminal but is able to handle different types of cargo such as general cargo, containers, cement and break bulk.ANCHORAGE:
There is a safe and protected anchorage area located at Samana bay and pilot will indicate the best location.PILOTAGE:
Pilot and harbor master can be contacted by radio channel 16. Pilot boards the vessel in the south of Punta Balandra from a small boat of about 20 feet in length and service is rendered only on daylight hours.RESTRICTIONS:
Entry and departure movement allowed 24 hours a day but daylight navigation is recommended.STOWAWAYS:
Unfortunately, all ports within the Dominican Republic are facing drastic problems related to stowaways. The unauthorized boarding of vessels, while at roads, or in port, are the most serious hazard you shall have to face. Prior to sailing the vessel will be boarded by a team of Dom. Rep. Navy personnel who shall perform a ship search for stowaways. However, the best way to minimize the risk of stowaways is by hiring private security service which can be arranged by the agent on a no cure/ no pay basis.
